A governorship aspirant in Zamfara State on the platform of the APC, Dauda Lawan, said yesterday that he had all the credentials and outreach to improve the lives of the people through economic diversification.
Speaking to newsmen in Abuja after he completed his screening at the APC national secretariat, Lawan, a banker by training, said the deteriorating security situation in Zamfara which led to the death of hundreds of people had dwarfed the fame of the state capital Gusau, which at a time stood next to Kano in terms of economic viability.
He said he was in the race without prejudice to the ambition of other aspirants, including Alhaji Muktar Idris, the Commissioner for Finance who had been anointed by Governor Abdul’aziz Yari as his likely successor.
“Our leaders have done their best and this is the time for them to allow us come in. This is the time to allow people with ideas and commitment. I have been with the grassroots and I know their pains; I have touched the lives of our people through empowerment, scholarships and rehabilitation of hospitals and schools. I would do more if elected governor.
“We have to get to the roots of our security problem and underdevelopment; Zamfara is dying in silence. There is peace in neighboring Sokoto, Kebbi and Katsina, why Zamfara? We have to find peace for our people who can no longer go to farm and no single company is functioning,” he said.
